EMERGENCY SAFETY PROCEDURE
Earthquake
Vanuatu is prone to earthquakes. It is not possible to prevent earthquakes or change the likelihood of an earthquake occurring.
However, we can greatly increase our chances of safety and survival by being aware and prepared.
Know your evacuation route. Take a moment to become familiar with your room and exits.
If an earthquake should occur, all hotel guests should:
>> Remain calm and do not panic.
>> Stay away from windows, mirrors, and hanging items.
>> Crawl under the table, stand in a doorway, or kneel and bend down. Cover yourself with blankets and protect your head with pillows, and wait for the earthquake to end.
>> After the shaking has totally stopped, safely exit your room.
>> Once outside, go to the open space at the end of the Fatumaru Lodge driveway and wait for instructions from the hotel staff and managers.
>> Be prepared for the possibilities of an aftershock. Remain outside the building until told to return. Stay clear of any electrical lines, coconut trees, or objects that could fall on you.
If there is a fire after the earthquake, you may use the red fire extinguisher just outside your door to stop the fire.
If your door does not open after an earthquake or if you are injured, open the windows and notify the people outside.
The hotel managers will inform you if there is a tsunami warning after the earthquake, and please follow their instructions if you need to move inland or to higher ground.
Please do not leave the Fatumaru Lodge property until you receive instructions from Fatumaru Lodge managers.
Your safety is our priority.
FIRE
If there is a fire, use the fire extinguisher outside your room to put out the fire, and immediately call for help.
TSUNAMI
When there is a tsunami warning:
>> Remain calm and do not panic. There is a siren warning system in place, and security and staff will notify you to leave your room and move to a safe location.
>> Quickly gather cash, cards, and passports, and leave the room. Do not try to take all your luggage.
>> The safe location would usually be the top of the car park; however, if instructed by staff, continue moving up the hill.
>> When advice is received that it is safe to return to your room, you may do so.
