Getting around like an Old City Lokal
Indego:
Indego is Philadelphia's bike share program. Bikes are available at stations around the city. Check out the app or online station map for bike and dock availability. To check out a bike, you an purchase a pass (credit card or cash options available) or you can simply walk up to any kiosk and use your credit/debit card to pay for a one-time trip. After riding, return the bike to any Indego station and firmly push it into a dock. If you don't hear the 3 beeps, your ride's not complete. Properly docking the bike ends your trip. That's it, you're done! Feel free to borrow helmets located in the lobby - safety first!
Septa:
Customers have a variety of fare options to suit their travel needs. The Septa Key can be purchased at kiosks and is a refillable pass where you can add a day, weekly, or monthly pass in addition to any dollar you'd like.
Market-Frankford Line:
The is the subway/El- system ("the blue line") that runs from West Philadelphia, through Downtown and into the Northeast. This is a great way to move around downtown to Fishtown. The closest stops to Lokal Old City are located at either 2nd & Market or 5th & Market.
Broad Street Line:
This is the subway you want to ride if you are trying to get to South Philly, particularly the Sports Complex, or North Philly and the Temple area. You can board at Broad and Market (there are multiple entrances in and around City Hall). To get there from either Lokal, hop on the Market-Frankford Line (see above) headed west, then transfer at 15th Street. It is a free transfer, assuming you do not exit the station.
The 5 Bus:
If you are trying to get to and from Northern Liberties or Fishtown, the 5 bus could be for you! To get to NoLibs or Fishtown, hop on the corner of 3rd and Race - it will take you up 3rd, turn right on Girard, then continue north to Frankford. To get back to Old City, you can hop on any corner along Frankford Avenue.
Uber/Lyft/Cab:
Download the Uber or Lyft app - that's what we do! It's a great and easy way to get around, and your driver will let you know when they are outside. Additionally, it is generally fairly easy to hail a cab in the city. Cab drivers take cash, but prefer debit or credit.

Walk:
Philly is an extremely walkable city. Downtown is laid out as a grid, so it is very hard to get lost. Numbered streets run east to west, the further west the higher the number. Center City is slightly over 2 miles wide, river to river (Delaware to Schuylkill).
